Seeds are planted to grow and benefit our neighbors.

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, members of LifeChangers Church, representatives from the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation, and the Clokey Park Neighborhood Association gathered to dedicate the first phase of a new community garden on a vacant lot across from the church at the corner of North Witt and East Prairie.

Inspiration for the garden began with its namesake, Mother Honeylee Livingston, who at age 70 went back to school to learn horticulture. Mother Livingston has been a pillar of faith and Christian service for many years, involved in numerous ministries and programs.

Her only request for the project was the planting of two rose bushes, among her favorite flowers. She can also be called upon to help identify and give recommendations on garden issues and unidentifiable plants.

A dedicated team of church members, neighbors, and community volunteers planted the raised beds with vegetables and small landscaping. The team will have a regular watering brigade, hosting on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 pm and Saturday mornings at 8 am.

The garden will be open for neighbors to pick vegetables. It is expected to expand slowly over the coming years to provide fresh vegetables and beautify a little corner of the Clokey Park neighborhood.

Call the church office at 217.428.9111 for further information or to volunteer.
